AI Startup Founder Develops Grand Theft Auto-Style Game Using Claude Max 20x
Startup founder Ziwen Xu is attempting to develop his own version of a Grand Theft Auto-style game using Anthropic's Claude Max 20x generative AI model. His stated goal is to launch this AI-coded game before the highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto 6, which is expected in November. Xu has been sharing updates on the project's progress, which currently shows a basic character and a background resembling Miami taking shape.
Startup founder Ziwen Xu has embarked on a project to create his own iteration of a Grand Theft Auto game, leveraging Anthropic's generative AI model, Claude Max 20x. Xu announced his intentions to "vibe code" this game and release it before the official launch of Grand Theft Auto 6.
Since beginning the project, Xu has provided updates on Claude's progress, sharing code on GitHub. The development has shown gradual advancements, with an initial oval character evolving into a recognizable human figure and the background starting to approximate Miami, the inspiration for Grand Theft Auto's fictional Vice City.
While significant elements like detailed vehicles, weaponry, and the series' iconic soundtrack are not yet present, Xu's initiative serves as an experiment in AI's capabilities within game development. The real Grand Theft Auto 6 follows GTA V, which sold over 230 million copies globally and generated more than $6 billion, making it a highly profitable entertainment product.
The budget for Grand Theft Auto 6 is estimated to range from $1 billion to over $3 billion. Xu's project aims to test the relevance of current AI coding in developing complex game environments and functionalities.
According to Mashable Tech, Xu has several months of development time remaining if the November release date for Grand Theft Auto 6 holds.
