Alana Haim Reveals Creation of Taylor Swift's 'Stevie Knicks' NBA Finals Shirt
Musician Alana Haim has detailed the process behind creating the custom Knicks-themed T-shirts worn by Taylor Swift, members of HAIM, and Mariska Hargitay at NBA Finals Game 4. The homemade garments, including Swift's "Stevie Knicks" shirt, were produced using a Cricut machine and screen-printing techniques. Haim shared that Swift herself suggested the punny design for her shirt, which the group wore while cheering on the New York Knicks.
Alana Haim, a member of the band HAIM, has shed light on how she created the homemade Knicks-themed T-shirts worn by herself, her sister Este Haim, Taylor Swift, and Mariska Hargitay at NBA Finals Game 4 on Wednesday, June 10.
In an interview published Thursday, June 11, Haim revealed her process, stating she enjoys making shirts for friends. She utilized a Cricut machine, which she acquired after HAIM's last tour, along with screen printing methods. This involved cutting vinyl, placing it on a screen, and applying screen-printing paint. Haim also experimented with a puff-paste effect for the designs.
The base for the custom apparel consisted of $3 Gildan tees sourced from Michaels craft supplies, with the designs featuring a shade of orange called Speedball. The shirts displayed punny names with a Knicks twist, such as "Stevie Knicks," "Knickleback," and "Knicole Kimdan."
Taylor Swift originated the "Stevie Knicks" pun and requested the shirt from Haim, who expressed that it was a dream request. Haim also explained that she brought extra shirts, leading to Mariska Hargitay sporting one courtside. The group, which included Alana and Este Haim, Taylor Swift, and Mariska Hargitay, attended the game at Madison Square Garden.
At the game on June 10, the New York Knicks secured a 107-106 victory against the San Antonio Spurs. Game five was scheduled for Saturday, June 13, at San Antonio's Frost Bank Center, where a Knicks win would result in their first championship since 1973.
According to Billboard, Haim displayed parts of the shirt-making process in an Instagram Stories video on Thursday.
