American Expat Andrew Corona Relocates to Bangkok, Works US Hours Overnight
Andrew Corona and his fiancée moved from San Diego to Bangkok in January 2025, realizing a long-held dream of living in Southeast Asia. Corona, 30, continues to work US hours for a private lending firm, operating on an overnight schedule in Thailand. He reports finding this work schedule more relaxing while residing in an upscale Bangkok condo for approximately $2,500 monthly, roughly half his previous rent in San Diego.
Andrew Corona, 30, relocated from the US to Bangkok with his fiancée in January 2025, fulfilling a desire to live in Southeast Asia that began after a 2018 trip to Thailand. The couple’s move followed a trial run in Bangkok during early 2024 and extensive travel exploring other global cities.
Corona cited the normalization of remote work post-pandemic as a key factor enabling the international move. He also expressed growing frustrations with conditions in San Diego, which contributed to his decision to seek life overseas.
They settled in a two-bedroom, two-bathroom furnished condo in Thonglor, an upscale Bangkok neighborhood. Their monthly rent is approximately $2,500, which Corona states is about half of what he paid for a smaller apartment in San Diego. The building offers amenities such as a rooftop pool, gym, golf simulator, lounges, and parking, and is located near a train station.
Corona estimates his monthly expenses, including utilities, groceries, and a gym membership, at approximately $1,700, with an additional $1,000 to $2,000 allocated for entertainment and leisure.
Despite the international move, Corona maintains his work for a US commercial real estate private lending firm. This requires him to work overnight hours in Thailand to align with US business operations. He indicated that he has adjusted to and now prefers this overnight schedule.
According to Business Insider, Corona's fiancée largely follows the same routine.
