Apple launched the MacBook Neo on March 11, entering the laptop market as a budget-friendly option. Initial impressions highlighted its colorful design and competitive price point, with sustained use over three months reinforcing its appeal.

The MacBook Neo brings several premium Apple features to a new market segment. These include a Liquid Retina Display, the macOS operating system, and a sleek aluminum design. The laptop starts at $599, with a version featuring Touch ID and 512GB of storage available for $699. An education price of $499 is also offered.

This device marks Apple's first MacBook without an M-series chip since 2020. It is designed for users such as high school and college students, or as a secondary device for streaming, music, and casual browsing. The MacBook Neo is not intended for professionals requiring heavy-duty tasks like photo or video editing, 3D modeling, or running open-source AI models, which are better suited for MacBook Air or Pro models with M5 chips.

Design is a significant aspect of the MacBook Neo, featuring an all-aluminum chassis with keys color-matched to the finish. It is available in four colors: silver, indigo, citrus, and blush. The citrus and indigo options are noted for their vibrant appearance. This premium build quality is offered at a budget price point.

When compared to other budget laptops, such as the Acer Aspire 16 AI, priced at $699, the MacBook Neo offers an aluminum chassis and Dolby Atmos speakers at a lower starting cost. The Acer Aspire 16 AI is described as having a flimsy hinge and plastic components.
