Argentina's Central Banker Meets Chinese Counterpart in Shanghai
Argentina's top central banker, Santiago Bausili, met with People's Bank of China governor Pan Gongsheng in Shanghai. This meeting marks an overture towards Beijing regarding a currency swap. This meeting is seen as an overture from Buenos Aires towards Beijing. It follows a period where Argentina had begun to unwind a currency lifeline, a decision that Washington had reportedly encouraged Argentina to abandon.
The encounter between the two central bank leaders occurred on the sidelines of an international symposium. This event was organized by the Bank for International Settlements and China's central bank.
