Aston Villa Misses Out on Moritz Nicolas' €12m Release Clause
Aston Villa has reportedly missed the deadline to trigger Borussia Mönchengladbach goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas's €12 million release clause. The clause expired earlier this week, despite Nicolas's reported openness to a move to the Premier League. While Nicolas has expressed a desire to remain a leader at Borussia-Park, Mönchengladbach is not ruling out a transfer if a substantial offer is presented, particularly following the arrival of Daniel Batz.
Aston Villa has reportedly missed an opportunity to sign Borussia Mönchengladbach's goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas for a reduced fee. The €12 million release clause in Nicolas's contract expired at the beginning of the week, according to a report.
Nicolas, who has attracted interest due to his performance, including 13 Bundesliga clean sheets, has envisioned a future as a leader at Borussia-Park. However, he is also reportedly open to a potential move to the Premier League.
Borussia Mönchengladbach is reportedly not ruling out a departure for their No.1 goalkeeper, should a considerable offer be received, despite the expired clause. This stance is also influenced by the arrival of Daniel Batz from Mainz.
Comparatively, Daniel Batz registered a 72.2% save percentage, which was higher than Nicolas's 71.8%. Only Borussia Dortmund's Gregor Kobel recorded a better save percentage at 72.4%.
According to Yahoo Sports Soccer, this development means Aston Villa would now need to negotiate directly with Mönchengladbach for any potential transfer.
