Despite Vinícius Júnior scoring an equalizer for Brazil, Bouaddi's commanding performance in central midfield, marked by leading statistics in touches, duels won, and successful passes, garnered significant attention. Moroccan midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi delivered a commanding performance in his first competitive international appearance during Morocco's 2026 World Cup opener against Brazil, which ended in a draw at MetLife Stadium on Saturday night.
Bouaddi, a Lille player, registered the most touches in the match with 88, won the most duels with 11, and completed the most successful passes in the opposition's half, tallying 30. He finished with an impressive 93% passing success rate, effectively dominating Casemiro in midfield.
While Brazil's Vinícius Júnior scored a superb equalizer, he was reportedly fortunate to be named man of the match, as Bouaddi's display drew considerable praise.
His national coach, Mohamed Ouahbi, noted that Bouaddi's performance was not a surprise. Ouahbi had played a crucial role in convincing the young midfielder to decline overtures from France and commit to Morocco just before the tournament. Bouaddi had made his debut for Lille in March 2023, three days after his 16th birthday.
According to Guardian Football, Bouaddi's performance marked his strong entry onto the international stage.
