Tony Latham, President of Bacardi North America since April 2023, has shared insights into his typical workday based in Miami. Originally from Australia, Latham has an extensive international background in consumer goods, having lived in eight countries over 25 years before joining Bacardi as global CFO in 2019. His daily routine emphasizes structured mornings, including an early start, dedicated fitness, and multiple breakfasts, alongside a demanding professional schedule involving significant travel and strategic use of technology like AI for business analysis.
Tony Latham, the 53-year-old President of Bacardi North America, who took over the role in April 2023, is based in Miami. Latham, originally from Australia, has a background in consumer goods, having worked at companies such as SC Johnson, Danone, and Unilever. He has lived in eight countries over the past 25 years, including approximately 10 years in Asia and eight in Europe. He joined Bacardi in 2019 as the global CFO, initially based in Bermuda.
Latham's typical day begins at 5:30 a.m., influenced by time spent in the military. He prioritizes checking his sleep quality and readiness using an Oura ring. His morning routine includes an espresso, a banana, and yogurt before others in his household wake up. He works out four to five days a week, plus weekends, in a home gym he established in his three-car garage. After his workout, he has a second breakfast either during his 45-minute commute to the office or upon arrival.
His commute offers an opportunity for calls, especially with Bacardi's headquarters in Bermuda, which is an hour ahead, or for reflection. Latham states he is in the office whenever he is in Miami, utilizing the company's new modern space in Coral Gables. He travels between two to three weeks per month, visiting key markets, commercial teams, customers, and attending brand activations around major events.
Latham aims to avoid scheduling meetings before 10 a.m. to allow for morning preparation. His meetings are typically scheduled until about 3 p.m. He uses AI to collect and analyze data across the business, facilitating quicker decision-making, and also for personal investment research, such as generating company competitive advantage summaries.
Lunch is catered in the office, and Latham prefers to eat in the common space to engage with his team. After lunch, he returns to meetings. He maintains visibility of his schedule two months in advance, though travel can introduce fluidity. Global leadership and board meetings are scheduled more than 12 months ahead. After 3 p.m., he may visit local accounts to provide support.
Latham lives with his Canadian wife of 20 years and their two sons, one a high-school junior and the other a recent graduate.
