Ballymena United Signs Defender Micheal Glynn, Carrick Rangers Reacquires Jack Hastings
Ballymena United has completed the signing of defender Micheal Glynn, 24, following the expiration of his contract at Cliftonville. Glynn, a former Northern Ireland under-21 international, spent two years with the Reds, making 75 appearances and winning the BetMcLean Cup in 2025. He joins as Ballymena's second summer acquisition. Separately, Carrick Rangers has confirmed the return of 19-year-old forward Jack Hastings on a free transfer after he departed Larne at the end of his contract. Hastings previously made eight appearances for Carrick Rangers during the 2024/25 season and spent last season on loan at Armagh City.

Glynn expressed his ambition to continue his success, stating, "I'm still very young in my career but I've played a lot of games in the league. I've picked up a few medals so far and the project here is one of trying to pick up more and pushing for Europe." He added that he recognizes the quality of the Ballymena squad, having played against many of its members.
Ballymena boss Oran Kearney welcomed Glynn, emphasizing the club's goal of having strong competition in every position. "The aim for us is to have two good players in every position... it's my job to provide competition to challenge him and Micheal's job is to do that," Kearney said. He noted Glynn's experience and potential for growth, stating he has "a lot of games behind him and many successes."
Glynn is Ballymena United's second summer signing, following the arrival of striker Chris McKee from Linfield, which was announced on Monday.
In related news, Carrick Rangers has confirmed that forward Jack Hastings, 19, will return to the club on a free transfer. Hastings left Larne at the conclusion of his contract and spent the previous season on loan at Armagh City. He previously had a spell at Taylors Avenue during the second half of the 2024/25 season, making eight appearances for Carrick Rangers.
Hastings shared his enthusiasm for returning, saying, "I'm happy to return to Carrick Rangers and looking forward to the challenge ahead. I'm keen to take every opportunity I get and to score some goals and help the team push on."
