Beehiiv Integrates AI Chatbots to Automate Newsletter Production
Newsletter platform Beehiiv is rolling out a new AI writing feature that deepens its integration with various chatbots, including Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini. Available to paid users starting Tuesday, the tool aims to streamline newsletter creation by automating tasks such as drafting, adding meta descriptions, and adjusting page aesthetics. This initiative reflects Beehiiv's strategy to enhance creator workflows in a competitive market through artificial intelligence.
Newsletter platform Beehiiv is introducing a new AI writing feature designed to integrate more deeply with advanced chatbots. The tool allows users to automate various publishing tasks and customize their newsletter's appearance using text prompts. Supported AI models include Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and others.
Tyler Denk, CEO of Beehiiv, exclusively informed Business Insider about the new feature, which will be accessible to paid users starting Tuesday. It enables the automation of publishing tasks like adding meta descriptions to images, tagging posts, and fine-tuning the visual presentation of a newsletter page. Denk also suggested additional applications, such as creating new story templates styled to a writer's brand, developing annual reader surveys, and crafting SEO-friendly descriptions and titles for podcasts.
Developed using a model context protocol (MCP), this tool expands upon a previous Beehiiv feature that allowed writers to feed readership and story performance data into AI tools for analysis and daily reports. In the competitive newsletter market, competitor Substack is also reportedly testing its own chatbot connector.
Jaan Juurikas, a Beehiiv writer with an electric-vehicle newsletter named EVwire and approximately 14,000 subscribers, exemplifies the integration of AI into workflow. Juurikas trained Claude to research, draft, and structure articles in his specific style, which he attributes to helping his small team double their publishing output. He noted that, when trained effectively, AI can produce drafts that are nearly 90% complete.
Beehiiv aims to excel through product and user experience, embracing the trend of increasing consumer use of large language models (LLMs). Brandon Smithwrick, who authors the Content to Commas newsletter on Beehiiv, utilizes the MCP tool to generate reports on article readership and performance, and even requests AI to assign letter grades to articles. However, Smithwrick emphasized the importance of human creativity for generating unique ideas, suggesting a balanced approach to AI use.
Denk cautioned that for AI-generated content to succeed, it must address genuine consumer needs and maintain high quality. He asserted that subscribers will ultimately decide which content to support through their engagement and financial contributions.
