Botafogo Finalizes Russia Training Camp Amid World Cup Break
Brazilian football club Botafogo has finalized plans for a mid-season training camp in Russia, taking advantage of the national calendar's pause for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The squad, known as Glorioso, will travel to Russia in July to play four friendly matches against local teams, including CSKA Moscow and Dynamo Moscow. This international tour aims to prepare the team for the resumption of official competitions later that month, with Russian clubs reportedly covering all logistical expenses for the delegation.
Botafogo's board has confirmed an international training plan for its squad, utilizing the break in the national football calendar for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The club will travel to Russia for a mid-season training camp in July, where it is scheduled to play four friendly matches against local teams.
The tour is expected to involve approximately 30 players. The delegation will depart for Russia on July 1. Their schedule includes a main friendly match against CSKA Moscow on July 5 at the opponent’s stadium. A second main friendly is set for July 10 against Dynamo Moscow.
In addition to the main fixtures, alternative training matches are planned for July 6 and July 10. These secondary games are intended to provide playing time for players with fewer minutes and those who did not start the primary matches. The squad is scheduled to officially return to Brazil on July 11.
Prior to their departure, the squad will return to Rio de Janeiro on June 22 to commence physical training at Espaço Lonier. Players had been on a break since June 5, following a match against Bahia in the Brasileirão.
The primary focus of this training camp is to ensure the team is fully prepared for the return of official competitions. Botafogo's next official match is scheduled for July 22 against Santos at Nilton Santos, marking the 19th round of the national championship.
The tour was made possible due to the Rio club's relationship with Russian teams, which are expected to cover all logistical costs for the Botafogo delegation.
According to ge, Glorioso has stamped its passport for this international venture. (Source: Yahoo Sports Soccer)
