CBFC Mandates Cuts to Steven Spielberg's 'Disclosure Day' for India Release
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) required several cuts for Steven Spielberg's film 'Disclosure Day' before granting its certificate in India. Specifically, the words 'sex' and 'f**k' were muted from the dialogue. Following these alterations, the sci-fi movie was issued a U/A 13+ certificate on June 11, with a stated runtime of 145 minutes and 36 seconds.

Steven Spielberg's latest film, 'Disclosure Day,' underwent content modifications by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) prior to its release in India. While other films of the week, including 'Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata,' 'Haunted – Echoes Of The Past,' and 'Backrooms,' reportedly passed without cuts, 'Disclosure Day' was an exception.
Changes mandated by the CBFC included the muting of the word 'sex' in a dialogue during the first act. This occurs in a scene where Daniel Kellner (Josh O'Connor) discovers his girlfriend, Jane (Eve Hewson), was a nun. When questioned about her religious commitments, Jane responds negatively, referencing their sexual relationship. Additionally, the word 'f**k' was muted in two instances within the film.
After these revisions, 'Disclosure Day' received its censor certificate on June 11, categorizing it with a U/A 13+ rating. The official length of the film, as noted on the certificate, is 145 minutes and 36 seconds, or 2 hours, 25 minutes, and 36 seconds.
The film, directed by Steven Spielberg, sees him reunite with screenwriter David Koepp, with whom he previously collaborated on films such as 'Jurassic Park' (1993), 'The Lost World: Jurassic Park' (1997), 'War Of The Worlds' (2005), and 'Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull' (2008). Legendary composer John Williams contributed to the score, marking his 30th collaboration with Spielberg. The cast features Emily Blunt, Josh O'Connor, Colin Firth, Colman Domingo, and Eve Hewson.
'Disclosure Day' centers on Daniel Kellner, a Kansas City reporter and cybersecurity specialist, who meets under mysterious circumstances amidst global chaos. The sci-fi production opened worldwide with 27.6 million USD and is projected to achieve a weekend total of approximately 94 million USD. In India, its opening collection ranged between Rs. 1.75 crores and Rs. 2 crores.
According to Bollywood Hungama, this opening performance is considered fair, given the film's niche genre and competition from both new and existing releases.
