Collector Develops App to Streamline Pokémon Card Sales and Social Promotion
An individual collecting vintage Pokémon cards has developed a custom Mac application to manage and sell an inventory exceeding 1,000 cards. The app automates the process of creating detailed listings with specific card information and generating descriptions. It also integrates with the Buffer API to schedule social media posts, addressing the significant role social promotion plays in the collectible card market.

A vintage Pokémon card collector, accumulating over 1,000 spare cards from sourcing for their own collection, identified a need for a more efficient sales process. The manual tasks associated with listing each card—including detailing name, set, edition, condition, photos, and descriptions—proved time-consuming and unsustainable as a side hobby.
The collector noted that social media promotion is crucial for selling collectibles like Pokémon cards, as buyers often discover items through feeds and fan accounts rather than direct marketplace searches. However, manually creating social posts for hundreds of listings was often neglected due to its tedious nature.
To address these challenges, a custom Mac application was developed. This app streamlines the entire sales pipeline, from listing creation to social media promotion. It was designed to integrate the listing and promotional workflows into a single process.
The application utilizes the Buffer API to facilitate automated social post scheduling. This integration allows posts to be queued and published at optimal times when the target audience is most active online, rather than immediately after a card is listed.
The app's workflow begins with users dragging and dropping zipped folders of card photos. It then sorts and groups these photos into pairs (front and back shots), automating the initial steps required for creating new listings. This batch processing capability significantly reduces the manual effort previously required for individual card management.
According to Buffer Resources, the app transforms listing creation into a comprehensive tool for selling cards, effectively closing the gap between generating a listing and achieving a sale.
