DoorDash Launches 'Ask DoorDash' AI Chatbot for Enhanced Ordering
DoorDash has introduced a new AI chatbot named 'Ask DoorDash' to streamline the ordering process for its users. The feature allows customers to fill their carts using various methods, including uploading photos of grocery lists or recipes, or by using voice and written prompts, aiming to reduce the need for manual scrolling. The chatbot can also provide recommendations based on past orders and social media reviews, and offers reminders for essential grocery staples. Following a limited rollout, the feature is set to become available to more users in the coming weeks, with future plans to include restaurant reservation capabilities.

DoorDash has launched a new AI chatbot, 'Ask DoorDash,' designed to simplify the food and grocery ordering experience. The chatbot enables customers to add items to their carts by uploading photos of grocery lists, recipes, or other images. Users can also place orders through voice commands or written prompts, reducing the need for traditional app scrolling.
'Ask DoorDash' is equipped to offer recommendations based on a user's past orders and reviews found on social media platforms. Additionally, the bot can proactively inquire if a user is running low on common grocery staples such as frozen burritos, ramen, or mac & cheese.
According to DoorDash co-founder Andy Fang, a limited rollout of the feature to select iOS users saw nearly half of the takeout orders placed via the tool come from customers who had not previously ordered from those specific restaurants.
This initiative follows similar moves by other delivery platforms, including Uber Eats and Instacart, which have integrated AI assistants to create a more conversational and personalized shopping experience for their users.
The chatbot is scheduled for a broader rollout to more users in the upcoming weeks. Future enhancements for 'Ask DoorDash' are expected to include the ability to make restaurant reservations on behalf of diners.
