Ebola Cases Rise in DRC and Uganda as Health Officials Trail Outbreak
The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) continues to intensify, with reported cases climbing to 676 confirmed infections and 136 deaths as of Thursday, June 11. Health officials are reportedly struggling to keep pace with the rapidly spreading virus. Neighboring Uganda has also reported 19 confirmed cases and two fatalities, indicating a regional spread of the Bundibugyo strain of Ebolavirus.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is experiencing a growing Ebola outbreak, with confirmed cases reaching 676 and 136 deaths as of Thursday, June 11. An additional 119 suspected cases have been reported within the country. Health officials have indicated that their response efforts are still struggling to contain the virus's spread nearly a month after the outbreak began.
The neighboring country of Uganda has also reported cases linked to the outbreak. As of the same date, Uganda has confirmed 19 cases of Ebola and two deaths. The current outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo strain of Ebolavirus.
This event marks the third largest Ebola outbreak on record. Concerns among health experts are mounting, as they fear the outbreak could escalate significantly. It is also believed that the virus may have been circulating for several months before the official declaration of the outbreak on May 15.
According to Ars Technica, response efforts are still playing catch-up as cases continue to rise.
