US broadcaster Fox will not receive any sanction from FIFA, the global governing body for football, following a breach of its advertising regulations during the opening game of the World Cup last week.
The incident took place during the match between Mexico and South Africa at Mexico City Stadium. Fox reportedly violated FIFA's strict guidelines for showing commercials during hydration breaks, which were in operation for the first time.
The guidelines require broadcasters to return to live action 30 seconds before play resumes. However, Fox's broadcast reportedly returned to the live feed 10 seconds after the game had already recommenced during the second half. Despite this infraction, FIFA has confirmed that no disciplinary action will be taken against the broadcaster.
According to The Guardian Sport, this marked the first occasion hydration breaks were implemented.
