Florida Sues TikTok Over Alleged Violations of State's Child Social Media Law
Florida has filed a lawsuit against TikTok, alleging the social media platform violated a state law restricting social media access for teenagers. The state's attorney general accused TikTok of exposing children to harmful sexual content and employing addictive features. These features, including unlimited scrolling and push notifications, are claimed to be designed to keep users on the platform for extended periods.

Florida has initiated a lawsuit against TikTok, with the state's attorney general accusing the social media company of violating a state law that limits social media access for teenagers. The action, announced on Monday, alleges that TikTok has exposed children to harmful sexual content and integrated addictive features into its platform.
Attorney General James Uthmeier, a Republican, stated in a press conference that TikTok's design includes elements such as unlimited scrolling and push notifications. He described these features as intentionally crafted to keep children engaged on screens for extended durations.
Uthmeier claimed that evidence indicates many children spend significant time on TikTok, with usage reported at "upwards of six, seven, eight or more hours a day." He emphasized the state's objective to "get our kids their lives back."
According to The Guardian Tech, Florida is the latest state to sue TikTok regarding these matters.
