Former CAR President Bozizé Faces War Crimes Trial In Absentia
Former Central African Republic (CAR) President François Bozizé, 79, has begun a trial in absentia at the UN-backed Special Criminal Court in the Central African Republic. The proceedings, which include foreign judges, concern charges of crimes against humanity. Bozizé, who seized power in a 2003 coup and was overthrown a decade later by rebels, has resided in exile in Guinea-Bissau since March 2023.

The court, which includes foreign judges, is conducting the proceedings without Bozizé's physical presence. He has been living in exile in Guinea-Bissau since March 2023.
Bozizé originally seized power in the Central African Republic through a coup in 2003. His rule lasted for a decade until he was overthrown by rebel forces in 2013.
