Former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol was sentenced on Friday to 30 years in prison. The sentence was handed down for his role in sending military drones into North Korea, an act prosecutors alleged was intended to "heighten inter-Korean military tensions and manufacture a national crisis" to enable a declaration of martial law. This conviction follows a life imprisonment sentence Yeol received in February for leading an insurrection through his 2024 martial law declaration, a ruling he is currently appealing.

Former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has been sentenced to 30 years in prison. The court delivered the sentence on Friday in connection with his decision to deploy military drones into North Korea. Prosecutors stated that Yeol's actions were aimed at escalating military tensions between the Koreas and creating a national crisis to justify declaring martial law.
This ruling comes after Yeol was given a life imprisonment sentence in February of the same year. That earlier conviction was for leading an insurrection following his 2024 declaration of martial law. Yeol is currently appealing the life imprisonment sentence.
According to France 24, these legal proceedings mark significant developments concerning the former head of state.
