G7 Summit Kicks Off in France with Focus on Iran and Ukraine Conflicts
World leaders have begun gathering in Evian-les-Bains, France, for the Group of Seven (G7) summit. President Donald Trump arrived Monday afternoon, with key discussions expected to center on the U.S. war against Iran and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The summit convenes after Trump announced an agreement he claims will end the 15-week U.S.-Iran conflict, a situation that has faced criticism from some G7 leaders for its management and impact on global energy prices.

World leaders have convened in the French spa town of Evian-les-Bains for the Group of Seven (G7) summit. President Donald Trump arrived Monday afternoon to join talks with leaders from the powerful democracies, with the U.S. war against Iran and the conflict in Ukraine topping the agenda.
Trump's arrival follows his announcement of an agreement that he stated would bring an end to the U.S. war against Iran. This conflict, which has lasted approximately 15 weeks, has contributed to a surge in global energy prices.
Trump has faced criticism from some G7 leaders regarding his handling of the Iran conflict. French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni have expressed sharp disagreement over not being consulted before the decision to engage in the war. Trump has reportedly threatened reprisals, including reducing U.S. troop presence in these four NATO member countries, due to perceived lack of support.
The Ukraine war is also a prominent issue, despite having reportedly slipped down the White House's list of priorities. Trump spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sunday. Zelenskyy is expected to utilize a Tuesday morning session at the summit to highlight the progress Ukrainian forces are making against the Russian invasion.
The G7 comprises France, the United States, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom. Guest nations attending this summit include Brazil, Egypt, India, Kenya, South Korea, Qatar, Syria, Ukraine, and the United Arab Emirates.
According to Fast Company, citing the Associated Press, these international discussions aim to address pressing global security and economic challenges.
