Hong Kong Wet Market Sample Positive for H9 Bird Flu After Child Infection
A sample collected from a wet market in Hong Kong has tested positive for the H9 strain of bird flu. This development follows the recent infection of a two-year-old boy with H9N2 avian influenza, who had previously visited the same market. The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) has indicated that the risk of a serious bird flu outbreak remains low, despite the confirmed positive sample.

A sample obtained from a wet market in Hong Kong has tested positive for bird flu H9. This finding comes days after a two-year-old boy, who had visited the location, contracted a mild form of the infectious disease.
The boy, a resident of Sha Tin, developed symptoms after visiting Wo Che Market in the district. He was later confirmed to be infected with H9N2 avian influenza and is currently reported to be in stable condition.
On Monday, the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) stated that despite the positive market sample, the overall risk of a serious bird flu outbreak in the region is considered low.
According to the South China Morning Post, the sample tested positive following the child's infection.
