According to journalist Miguel Serrano on Defensa Central, former manager Alvaro Arbeloa provided negative assessments of Carreras, which have influenced Mourinho's planning ahead of the new season. Carreras joined Real Madrid from Benfica in 2025, initially seen as a long-term solution for the left side of defense.

While Carreras reportedly showed early promise under Xabi Alonso, his influence diminished after Alvaro Arbeloa became manager, and his performances became increasingly inconsistent. Mourinho is said to be seeking reinforcements and increased competition for the left-back position.

The club's current left-back, Ferland Mendy, is respected for his defensive qualities but is currently injured, leading to concerns about his reliability.
