Librarians Offer Sanctuary to Heat-Stricken Wanderer
A group of librarians, including Ponyboy, Eustace, and Little Jo, reportedly encountered a heat-stricken stranger seeking sanctuary. They transported Gibson to a cool cellar, providing immediate care for severe heat exhaustion to stabilize her condition.
A narrative published by MIT Technology Review describes a group of librarians offering sanctuary to a severely heat-stricken wanderer. The incident reportedly began when three librarians—Ponyboy, Eustace, and Little Jo—encountered an individual at the entrance of their library. The librarians, who were armed with pistols, approached cautiously as the stranger, described as five feet, ten inches tall and wearing a distinctive hat, uttered "Sanctuary" before collapsing.
The librarians swiftly moved to aid the individual, who was found to be suffering from extreme heat. They removed the stranger's pack and quickly transported them, using a rug as a stretcher, to a narrow, low-ceilinged cellar for cooling. The individual, later identified as Gibson, was stripped of their machine-woven clothing, with intentions for later repair.
In the cellar, wet, cold pillowcases and ice were applied to Gibson to combat the severe heat exhaustion. Initial resistance and screams from Gibson eventually subsided as the librarians, including Ponyboy (identified as a PhD) and Eustace (identified as an MLS), provided care. Gibson confirmed seeking sanctuary and was informed she had reached "the Bōchord." While Gibson rested, Little Jo reportedly maintained watch upstairs, and Ponyboy returned to her cataloging duties.
