Meta Launches Upgraded AI Experience Powered by Llama 3 Model
Meta Platforms has introduced an enhanced Meta AI experience, featuring its new Llama 3 AI model. CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the integration of this AI assistant across Meta's primary applications, including WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger, alongside a dedicated website at meta.ai. The upgraded Meta AI offers new functionalities like photo animation and real-time, high-quality image generation. This strategic move aligns with Meta's declared focus on artificial intelligence as its primary investment area for 2024, following its 20th anniversary.
Meta Platforms recently unveiled an upgraded Meta AI experience, which incorporates the company's new, state-of-the-art Llama 3 AI model. Mark Zuckerberg, CEO and co-founder of Facebook / Meta Platforms, announced this development on April 18, 2024.
The goal for Meta AI is to become the world's leading AI assistant, freely accessible to users. The new AI is integrated into the search functionalities of WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger. A dedicated website, meta.ai, has also been launched for web access.
New creation features include the ability to animate photos and generate high-quality images in real-time as users type. The system also provides a playback video of the creation process.
This launch coincides with Meta Platforms, Inc.'s 20th anniversary, which occurred on February 4, 2024. The company currently reports 3.2 billion people using at least one Meta app daily, encompassing Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Meta Platforms is recognized as a trillion-dollar company, ranking sixth among the largest American companies by market capitalization.
Over the past several years, Meta has undergone strategic shifts. In 2021, the company focused on building the metaverse, leading to the rebranding from Facebook, Inc. to Meta Platforms, Inc. The year 2022 was designated the "year of efficiency," involving layoffs, budget tightening, and project streamlining. In 2023, Zuckerberg declared a "turbo-charged" focus on AI, which included the launch of the Threads app and the introduction of generative AI features such as 'Imagine with Meta AI'.
For 2024, Meta plans to prioritize Business AIs, with artificial intelligence identified as the company's largest investment area. While the metaverse remains a component of Meta's long-term vision, Zuckerberg has consistently pursued AI development for over a decade. His efforts included an attempt to acquire the British-American AI research lab DeepMind in 2013, which was ultimately acquired by Google in 2014.
According to Mari Smith FB Marketing, a free online training session titled "Facebook Marketing in an AI World" was hosted, expanding on a presentation given at the Social Media Marketing World conference on February 20 this year.
