Meta Platforms Experience Widespread Outages Affecting Facebook and Instagram
Meta's key social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram, were hit by widespread outages on Friday morning, with users reporting issues accessing the services. The disruptions were also indicated by the third-party outage-tracking website DownDetector.com. Meta acknowledged the problems, with a company spokesperson and its communication director confirming they were working to resolve the issues.
Users of Meta-owned social media sites, including Facebook and Instagram, reported widespread issues accessing the platforms on Friday morning. The problems were also noted by DownDetector.com, a third-party website that tracks service outages.
Meta confirmed awareness of the disruptions. Andy Stone, Meta's communication director, stated in a post on X, "We're aware people are currently having trouble accessing our services. We're working on it." A company spokesperson also acknowledged the outages.
Beyond Facebook and Instagram, Meta's systems dashboard indicated "high disruptions" for several other services. These included Facebook Ads Manager, Messenger API, the Messenger platform, and the WhatsApp Business Platform, all affected on Friday.
According to Business Insider, Meta did not immediately provide further comment on the situation.
