Microsoft Rolls Out Updates for Six Windows Apps, Including AI Watermarks for Photos
Microsoft has released significant updates for six of its core Windows applications: Photos, Calculator, Clock, Media Player, Voice Recorder, and Paint. The Photos app introduces a new visible Copilot watermark option for AI-generated or edited images, which is off by default but configurable by users. Other enhancements include improved square-root accuracy in Calculator, enhanced timer functionality in Clock, and refined playlist management in Media Player.
Microsoft has deployed substantial updates across six of its default Windows applications, according to reports from the "Microsoft enthusiast" site Neowin. The updated applications include Photos, Calculator, Clock, Media Player, Voice Recorder, and Paint.
The Photos app, version 2026.11060.2004.0, now features an AI watermarking capability. This allows AI-generated or edited images to display a visible Copilot watermark. Users have the option to set watermarking preferences to 'Never,' 'Always,' or 'Ask Every Time' within the app's settings. A confirmation prompt appears when saving such images. The watermarking feature is disabled by default.
For the Calculator app, version 11.2605.9.0, improvements have been made to the accuracy of square-root calculations. The update addresses rare instances where calculations intended to result in zero would instead return a minuscule residual value. Additionally, the update resolves an issue that sometimes prevented the app from launching reliably after upgrading from much older versions, which could leave outdated settings in place.
The Clock app, also updated to version 11.2605.9.0, now includes several functional enhancements. Timers will continue to count upwards after reaching zero, displaying how much time has elapsed since the alarm. The app also corrects an icon display error in polar regions, ensuring that a moon icon no longer appears during periods of all-day daylight. Furthermore, screen readers will no longer announce timer values twice, improving accessibility.
The Media Player, version 11.2605.14.0, has been updated to prevent users from accidentally saving playlists without a designated name. No specific details were provided for the updates to Voice Recorder or Paint.
According to Slashdot, the updates aim to enhance user experience and functionality across these integral Windows tools. (Source: Slashdot)
