This innovative device features a 60Hz refresh rate, aiming to provide a smooth visual experience comparable to conventional displays. Modos has launched the Modos Flow, a portable E-Ink display that operates at a 60Hz refresh rate. This development aims to address the historically slow refresh rates associated with electronic paper, which have typically limited its use to devices like e-readers or smartwatches.
The company dedicated six years to developing this fast E-Ink display, incorporating several custom microcontrollers to achieve its intended performance. The Modos Flow utilizes a 13.3-inch E-Ink Carta 1300 display panel, providing a high resolution of 3200 x 2400 pixels, which translates to 300fpi for detailed, paper-like visuals.
Connectivity for the device is facilitated through a USB-C port that supports DisplayPort over USB-C. Its portable design ensures users are not restricted to a wall socket. The Modos Flow is designed to be compatible with virtually any powerful device, broadening the potential applications for E-Ink technology.
The Modos Flow is currently available for backing through a crowdfunding campaign. Pricing for the monochrome variant of the display starts at $619.
