Chilean-Mexican singer-songwriter Mon Laferte released her tenth studio project, *Femme Fatale Vol. 2*, on Friday, June 12. The album features 20 new songs that continue to explore themes of emotional dependency, trauma, father relationships, politics, and motherhood. The release follows her *Femme Fatale* album, which arrived last October, by eight months.
*Femme Fatale Vol. 2* is described as an extension of the spirit of the first album, maintaining its "femme fatale" atmosphere of vulnerability and darkness. Sonically, this new collection is more eclectic, incorporating elements of blues, folk, punk, and alt-rock. Mon Laferte co-produced the album with Manu Jalil, with some tracks also co-produced by Rick Nowels.
The album's opening track, "For Your Consideration," reflects on fame. The closing track, "Gigante," was written by Laferte almost two decades ago at age 26, following a thyroid surgery that posed a risk to her voice.
Collaborations on the album include "Eterno Resplandor De Una Mente Sin Recuerdos" with Chilean artist Javiera Electra, "Quién Soy Yo Cuando No Estoy Contigo" with Mexican artist GRTSCH, and "While I'll Keep Writing Songs for You" with American singer-songwriter St. Vincent. This marks St. Vincent's second collaboration with Laferte. The lead single, "A Pesar De Ti y De Mí," was released recently alongside its music video.
The songs on *Femme Fatale Vol. 2* are not newly written but rather a selection of material Mon Laferte had accumulated over time, with some notes and melodies dating back to 2016. She had a collection of approximately 50 to 60 songs during the curation process for the initial *Femme Fatale* album and decided to develop the remaining material into a second volume.
Mon Laferte is scheduled to bring her current Femme Fatale Tour to the U.S. this summer.
