Nintendo Switch Update 22.5.0 Redesigns eShop, Addresses Performance Issues
The original Nintendo Switch has received system update 22.5.0, which includes a redesign of the Nintendo eShop layout. This update reportedly resolves long-standing performance issues, such as input lag and slow loading times, that have frustrated users for years. Additionally, the update introduces dark mode support for the eShop, new user-verification PIN options, and video playback controls for full-screen videos within the News and eShop sections.

A new system update, version 22.5.0, has been released for the original Nintendo Switch, more than nine years after its initial launch. This update primarily focuses on the Nintendo eShop, which has undergone a redesign.
For an extended period, the eShop on the original Switch was noted for its performance issues, including input lag, slow image loading, and delays when scrolling through listings. While the official patch notes vaguely state the eShop layout has been "redesigned," the update reportedly resolves these specific performance problems.
Other notable changes introduced with the 22.5.0 update include support for a dark mode theme within the eShop, which will reflect the system's "Basic Dark" setting. Users can now also employ a User-Verification PIN to confirm actions such as accessing the Nintendo eShop or using saved payment methods.
Furthermore, the update adds functionality to rewind or advance full-screen videos by 10 seconds using the ZL and ZR buttons when viewed in the News section or Nintendo eShop. General system stability improvements are also part of the update, aiming to enhance the overall user experience. The issue of a large volume of low-quality games on the eShop, however, remains unaffected by this update.
