Blood Cancer United, a nonprofit organization formerly known as the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, has acquired the remaining supplies of Luvelta, an investigational cancer drug that had been discontinued. The acquisition also includes the investigational new drug designation for Luvelta.
Sutro Biopharma had ceased development of Luvelta in March 2025 and also eliminated its compassionate-use program for the drug. Blood Cancer United will now manage a new compassionate-use program, ensuring the medication is distributed at no cost to children suffering from a rare form of blood cancer, while supplies last.
In a separate development, pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk reported a security incident. The company stated that certain information, including patient data from some clinical trials, was copied externally from its internal IT systems without authorization. The potential categories of personal data affected may include patient ID, year of birth, sex, and health or immunogenicity data.
Novo Nordisk has initiated a probe into the incident with the assistance of external cybersecurity experts and is in communication with relevant authorities. The company indicated that it does not believe the incident will enable any third party to identify participants in its clinical trials.
