Obsession Director Curry Barker Expresses Interest in Video Game Film Adaptations
Filmmaker Curry Barker, known for the successful horror movie "Obsession," has indicated his openness to directing a video game movie in the future. Despite not being a devoted gamer, Barker believes many video games offer strong concepts for cinematic adaptation. He cited "Five Nights at Freddy's" as a property he would have approached differently and discussed Zach Cregger's innovative concept for a "Resident Evil" film. Barker also revealed his personal favorite video game to be Naughty Dog's "Uncharted."

Curry Barker, director of the horror film "Obsession," which reportedly grossed over $220 million against a $750,000 budget, has expressed interest in directing a video game movie.
During an appearance on Josh Horowitz's "Happy Sad Confused" podcast, Barker stated that he would be open to the idea, despite not being a major gamer himself. He noted that many video games present compelling concepts suitable for film.
Barker specifically mentioned "Five Nights at Freddy's," suggesting he would have pursued a different creative direction for its adaptation. He also discussed a conversation with filmmaker Zach Cregger, who is reportedly developing a "Resident Evil" movie. Barker lauded Cregger's approach, which aims to capture the spirit of the games without directly adapting a specific title.
Barker and Cregger share similar career paths, both having transitioned from sketch comedy – Barker with "That's A Bad Idea" and Cregger with "Whitest Kids 'U Know" – to directing horror and psychological thrillers.
When asked about his personal favorite video game, Barker named Naughty Dog's "Uncharted" series. An "Uncharted" film adaptation, starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, has already been released.
In related news, director Kane Parsons, recognized for "Backrooms," has also expressed interest in a video game movie, potentially an adaptation of Valve's "Portal."
According to GameSpot, Barker is also attached to a new "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" movie and has plans for "Obsession" sequels and a television series.
