Pakistani Politicians Commend Nation's Mediation in US-Iran Peace Framework Agreement
Pakistani political and military leadership are being widely praised for their nation's pivotal role in mediating a framework agreement between the United States and Iran. The agreement, announced early Monday, aims to end a conflict lasting over three months, with an official signing ceremony anticipated on Friday, June 19, in Switzerland. Leaders across Pakistan's political spectrum have highlighted diplomacy's success and expressed hope for lasting regional peace.
A framework agreement between the United States and Iran was reached in the early hours of Monday, signaling an effort to conclude a more than three-month-long conflict. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the deal via a post on X, a development later confirmed by US President Donald Trump. An official signing ceremony is expected to take place on Friday, June 19, in Switzerland.
Pakistani politicians have lauded the agreement, particularly commending Pakistan's role as a key mediator in the peace process. PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari emphasized that the "breakthrough" demonstrated the efficacy of diplomacy over confrontation. He acknowledged the contributions of President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
President Zardari welcomed the development, expressing optimism that it would lead to a final agreement and establish durable peace in the region. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, in a post on X, specifically praised CDF Munir's efforts, stating, "He did it. Again. Not just for his country this time, but for the world."
PPP Senator Sherry Rehman described the agreement as a result of Pakistan’s diplomatic endeavors, calling the consensus a positive step toward global tension reduction. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif also highlighted CDF Munir's role, noting his success as a diplomat and commander, referencing a four-day conflict with India in May 2025. He also commended Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's sincerity and diplomatic acumen.
Information Minister Ataullah Tarar described Pakistan as a "torchbearer of peace," while Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gillani acknowledged the efforts of both political and military leadership, anticipating a new era of regional development. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi praised the leadership’s "coordinated, principled, and visionary efforts" for a historic diplomatic achievement. Communications Minister Abdul Aleem Khan also lauded Pakistan's role, attributing the success to the tireless efforts of CDF Munir and the Prime Minister, adding that "June 19, 2026, is going to be a big day."
According to Dawn Pakistan, this agreement renews hopes for a permanent end to the conflict that has affected much of the region.
