Rangers Evaluate Potential Reunion with Vaclav Cerny
Rangers are reportedly assessing a potential transfer for Besiktas wide attacker Vaclav Cerny during the upcoming summer window. Turkish journalist Murat Ozen shared this update, indicating the Glasgow club is considering bringing back the 28-year-old Czech international. Cerny's career includes stints at clubs like Ajax, Twente, and VfL Wolfsburg before he joined Besiktas. While past rumors of an Ibrox return did not materialize, Rangers are now evaluating a new move as they look to strengthen their attacking options.
Rangers are reportedly considering a reunion with Czech international Vaclav Cerny, a wide attacking player currently with Besiktas. This transfer update was shared by Turkish journalist Murat Ozen on the Orta Cizgi YouTube channel, with translations provided by Kartalın Asaleti JK on X. The Glasgow club is said to be assessing a potential move for Cerny during the summer transfer window.
The 28-year-old forward progressed through the FK Příbram academy in his home country before moving to the Netherlands, where he joined Ajax's esteemed academy. After sporadic first-team appearances at Ajax and an unsuccessful spell at Utrecht, Cerny found form during a loan stint with Twente, which became permanent in 2021. An excellent 2022-23 season then led to a switch to VfL Wolfsburg in 2023.
Despite previous rumors of a potential return to Ibrox last summer, a transfer did not materialize for Cerny. He subsequently joined Besiktas late in that transfer window. At the Turkish club, Cerny has scored seven goals and provided eight assists in 34 appearances. Besiktas finished fourth in their league, and the club, which invested approximately £6 million in the player, may consider offers in that region.
Rangers have previously sought to bolster their wide attacking positions, signing players such as Mikey Moore, Thelo Aasgaard, Djieidi Gassama, and Oliver Antman. Additionally, Andreas Skov Olsen was secured on loan from Wolfsburg in the winter window. However, Olsen reportedly struggled with form and fitness, preventing his loan from being converted into a permanent transfer. Moore has since returned to Tottenham Hotspur following the conclusion of his season-long loan, while Antman and Aasgaard have not consistently met expectations as attacking threats.
Cerny, who is primarily left-footed, is noted for his effectiveness as an inverted winger operating from the right flank. He is reportedly familiar with the aggression and physicality of Scottish football.
According to Yahoo Sports Soccer, Rangers' management is considering engaging in talks with Besiktas regarding a potential transfer.
