Rangers Target Derek McInnes as Danny Röhl Nears RB Salzburg Move
Rangers are reportedly considering Hearts manager Derek McInnes as a potential replacement for Danny Röhl, who is expected to join RB Salzburg. Discussions are underway between Rangers and Salzburg regarding a deal for Röhl, who was appointed by the Ibrox club last October. McInnes, a former Rangers player, guided Hearts to a second-place finish in the Scottish Premiership this season.

Rangers are reportedly eyeing Hearts manager Derek McInnes as a potential successor to Danny Röhl, who is anticipated to move to RB Salzburg. Talks are currently ongoing between Rangers and Salzburg concerning a deal for Röhl.
Röhl, who is 37 years old, took charge at Rangers last October. His coaching career began within the RB stable at Leipzig. There is a growing sentiment in Glasgow that Röhl will accept Salzburg’s offer, with a switch potentially occurring within days.
Should Röhl’s departure materialize, Rangers are expected to focus their attention on McInnes. The former Rangers player led Hearts to a second-place finish in the Scottish Premiership this season. The Edinburgh club narrowly missed out on what would have been their first title since 1960 on the final day, following a defeat at Celtic Park.
McInnes took over at Hearts in the summer of 2025, having previously managed Kilmarnock. He was recognized as Scotland’s manager of the year within 12 months of his appointment at Hearts. McInnes had previously declined an opportunity to manage Rangers in 2017.
According to Guardian Football, this potential managerial change follows a season where McInnes achieved significant success with Hearts.
