Real Madrid Star Vinicius Junior Defers Contract Discussion Amid World Cup Focus
Vinicius Junior has once again postponed discussions about his contract situation with Real Madrid, which has only one year remaining. The Brazilian forward stated his current focus is entirely on the national team's World Cup campaign. He indicated that all matters related to Real Madrid would be addressed after the tournament, despite ongoing speculation about a potential free transfer in just over a year.
Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior has deferred questions regarding his future with the club. His current contract at the Santiago Bernabeu has approximately one year remaining, leading to ongoing speculation.
Talks for a new deal reportedly began two summers ago, but both parties agreed to put them on hold. Despite suggestions of progress during the previous season, the matter appears to be at a stalemate again. Club President Florentino Perez has indicated the delay is not due to him holding out for more money, and Vinicius has consistently expressed his desire to remain with Real Madrid.
Speaking ahead of Brazil’s opening World Cup match, Vinicius declined to comment on his club future. He stated, "Right now I’m focused on the national team. I’ll talk about everything related to Real Madrid after the World Cup. Right now I’m only focused on my country, my teammates, and having a great tournament."
Vinicius is set to play a significant role for Brazil under former Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti. He spoke positively about his experience playing under Ancelotti, noting, "Playing with Ancelotti gives me a lot of peace of mind, a lot of freedom and confidence to do everything I’ve already done with the national team and at Real Madrid."
The forward described his current career phase as his most special and important, feeling that he is at his desired physical and technical level, having avoided injuries this season. He emphasized his goal for the World Cup is to play well and instill confidence in the team, rather than focusing solely on goals and assists.
Upon his return from the World Cup, Vinicius will be under his fourth coach in a year at Real Madrid, with Jose Mourinho recently installed as manager. This transition follows a prior incident in February where Mourinho reportedly accused Vinicius of provoking racist abuse from Benfica fans.
According to Yahoo Sports Soccer, Vinicius Junior will address his club future only after the World Cup concludes.
