Rebecca Yarros Confirms Work on Fourth 'Empyrean' Novel Underway
Author Rebecca Yarros has announced she is actively writing the fourth installment of her bestselling 'Empyrean' series, which includes 'Fourth Wing,' 'Iron Flame,' and 'Onyx Storm.' The series is slated to conclude with a fifth novel. Yarros has indicated a slower pace for the current book compared to previous releases, citing personal health considerations and a focus on family and another contemporary novel.
Rebecca Yarros, known for her 'Fourth Wing' series, has confirmed that she is currently working on the fourth novel in her 'Empyrean' series. The announcement comes over a year after the release of the third book, 'Onyx Storm,' which was published in January 2025.
The 'Empyrean' series, published by Entangled's fantasy imprint, Red Tower, began with 'Fourth Wing' in April 2023, followed by 'Iron Flame' in October 2023. The entire saga is planned to span five novels.
After the rapid release schedule of the first three books, Yarros stated in January 2025 that she would not commit to a release date for book four. She expressed intentions to write a contemporary novel and spend time with her family first. The author also mentioned to Elle that a break was necessary for her mental and physical well-being, as she lives with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and POTS.
Yarros began plotting the fourth novel in February 2026 and officially commenced writing in March 2026, sharing updates via Instagram. In June 2026, she posted about her plans to spend the summer writing at the beach due to noisy work at her home, referencing a location from 'Onyx Storm.'
Readers have been eagerly anticipating the next installment, especially following the cliffhanger ending of 'Onyx Storm,' which left several questions unanswered.
