RGG Studio's Stranger Than Heaven Introduces Dual-Hand Combat System
RGG Studio, known for the Like a Dragon and Yakuza series, is set to launch its new game, Stranger Than Heaven, featuring a novel combat system. This system allows players to independently control the left and right sides of their protagonist, requiring more tactical thought in each action. Unveiled at Summer Game Fest, the Yakuza prequel spans 50 years of Japanese history and is slated for release on January 15, 2027, across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

RGG Studio, the developer behind the Like a Dragon and Yakuza series, is introducing an innovative combat system in its upcoming title, Stranger Than Heaven. Unlike the arcade-inspired beat-'em-up action of its previous games, Stranger Than Heaven aims for a more thoughtful and visceral combat experience.
The game's core innovation lies in its combat system, which allows players to control the left and right sides of the protagonist independently. For instance, right shoulder and trigger buttons control actions from the right side, with a similar setup for the left. This design enables dynamic action sequences, allowing players to organically chain attacks, parry incoming blows, and stun enemies for follow-up knockout moves. Players can also utilize weapons to manage combat encounters when outnumbered.
Stranger Than Heaven is a Yakuza prequel set across 50 years and five distinct periods in Japan's history. It is designed to expand on RGG Studio's action game heritage by offering a more grounded form of combat.
The game is scheduled to launch on January 15, 2027, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Various editions are available, including the Standard Edition for $70, the Deluxe Edition for $90, and the Collector's Edition for $130.
Its cast features notable actors and musicians, including rapper Snoop Dogg, as well as posthumous appearances by Japanese actor Bunta Sugawara and rapper Tupac Shakur.
