Ridley Scott, Glenn Close to Receive Honorary Oscars at 2026 Governors Awards
Director Ridley Scott and actress Glenn Close are among the individuals slated to receive honorary Oscars at the 17th Governors Awards. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that Disney animator Floyd Norman will also be recognized with an honorary Oscar. Additionally, Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler of Killer Films will be presented with the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award for their contributions to cinema.

Joining Scott and Close as an honorary Oscar recipient is Floyd Norman, noted as Disney’s first Black animator. Norman, aged 90, has been recognized as a Disney Legend for his work on animated films such as "Sleeping Beauty," "The Jungle Book," and "Mulan." He co-founded AfroKids animation studio before rejoining Disney in the early 1970s.
The Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award will be bestowed upon independent film producers Christine Vachon and Pamela Koffler, who operate under the Killer Films banner. Their production credits include Oscar-nominated titles such as "Boys Don’t Cry," "Far From Heaven," "Still Alice," "Carol," "Past Lives," and "May December."
Glenn Close, 79, has had a screen presence since the 1970s, accumulating eight Oscar nominations for roles in films like "Fatal Attraction," "Dangerous Liaisons," and "The Wife." Sir Ridley Scott, 88, is known for directing iconic movies such as "Alien" and "Blade Runner." He has received three Best Director nominations and shared a Best Picture nomination as a producer for "The Martian."
Coverage of the Governors Awards will be integrated into the Academy’s 99th Oscars broadcast on March 14, 2027, which will be hosted by Conan O’Brien for the third consecutive year.
