Ruben Amorim Emerges as Leading Contender for AC Milan Managerial Job

Former Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is reportedly a leading contender for the AC Milan manager's job. Amorim, 41, has been without a club since his dismissal from Manchester United in January, concluding a 14-month period in charge.

During his 63 matches at the helm of Manchester United, Amorim recorded 24 wins and 21 losses. Sources close to the former Sporting boss had previously indicated he was not considering a return to Benfica, where he played for six years and made 154 appearances.

Discussions have reportedly taken place between AC Milan and Amorim's representatives. He is considered high on the club's list of candidates to succeed Massimiliano Allegri, who was dismissed in May. Allegri's departure followed Milan's failure to qualify for the Champions League.

AC Milan had been nine points clear of fifth place after a victory against rivals Inter in March. However, the team secured only 10 points from their final 10 games, finishing one point behind Como, who claimed the final Champions League spot on the last day of the season.

Other coaches linked to the vacancy include USA coach Mauricio Pochettino and Oliver Glasner, who recently departed Crystal Palace. Ralf Rangnick, another former Manchester United manager, is no longer in contention for the Milan job, having extended his contract with the Austrian national team until 2028.

Should Amorim be appointed, AC Milan is scheduled to play Manchester United in a pre-season match in Wroclaw, Poland, on August 15, one week before the Premier League season commences.
