São Paulo Pursues Hoffenheim's Arthur Chaves for Center-Back Position
Brazilian football club São Paulo is actively seeking to sign a new center-back, identifying 25-year-old Arthur Chaves from Hoffenheim as a primary target. The club is reportedly in discussions for a loan deal for Chaves, who is currently concluding a loan spell at Augsburg. This move aligns with São Paulo's 'zero-cost' transfer strategy, which prioritizes players available on loan or nearing the end of their contracts, a method successfully employed for previous signings.
São Paulo FC remains active in the transfer market, with the acquisition of a new center-back being a top priority for head coach Dorival Júnior. This objective comes as the club moves forward with the signing of forward Victor Sá.
Reports indicate that 25-year-old Arthur Chaves is São Paulo's new target, according to ge. Chaves is currently affiliated with Hoffenheim and is completing a loan period at Augsburg, both German clubs. São Paulo's board has initiated discussions with Chaves' representatives to explore the feasibility of a new loan agreement, ahead of the transfer window opening on July 20.
The club previously came close to signing Portuguese defender Domingos Duarte, currently with Getafe in Spain, during the FIFA World Cup break. Although contract length had been agreed upon, negotiations ended when the defender requested a higher salary increase at the last minute.
Under the direction of football executive Rui Costa, São Paulo is adhering to a 'Zero-Cost' Strategy. This approach emphasizes signing players who are nearing the end of their contracts or can be acquired on loan, thereby avoiding expenditures on economic rights. This strategy has been consistent across the club's six signings this season, which include goalkeeper Carlos Coronel, center-back Dória, right-back Lucas Ramon, defensive midfielder Danielzinho, attacking midfielder Cauly, and forward Artur, all of whom joined without a transfer fee. Forward Victor Sá also fits this model, as his contract with Krasnodar (Russia) is concluding.
