Sheryl Crow Calls White House UFC Event 'Disgraceful'
Singer Sheryl Crow publicly condemned a UFC event held on the White House lawn, describing it as "disgraceful and void of decency." She expressed her dismay on Instagram, highlighting the gathering of "powerful, rich people" for a "violent sport" that concluded with "a vile and racist comment" directed at former First Lady Michelle Obama. Crow contrasted this spectacle with the struggles of average Americans facing high costs of living and criticized the administration's perceived priorities.
Sheryl Crow voiced her strong disapproval of a Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) event hosted on the White House lawn, calling it "disgraceful and void of decency." The singer shared her comments on Instagram Story on Monday, June 15.
Crow stated that "powerful, rich people filled the lawn to watch a violent sport that ended with a vile and racist comment." She contrasted this event with the economic difficulties faced by many Americans, including challenges with healthcare affordability, gas prices, and the overall cost of living. Crow also accused the administration of being "corrupt" and focused on "making money hand over fist" rather than addressing the needs of the American public.
The event, identified as "UFC Freedom 250," took place on Sunday, June 14, at the White House. During the event, fighter Josh Hokit concluded his post-match interview by stating, "Michelle Obama is a man. Am I right, America?"
Following the incident, UFC CEO and president Dana White reportedly told Time magazine via text, as reported by CNN, that while the Obamas are public figures, he is "completely against saying nasty and false things about people’s families." White added, "Everyone knows my position on free speech but I hate that kind of nonsense." CNN also reported that Hokit's comment was met with mixed reactions from the crowd, including boos and cheers, and President Trump was observed "smiling briefly."
Crow has been a consistent critic of President Trump throughout his time in office. In January, she publicly called for his impeachment and imprisonment in connection with the Epstein files, citing his ties to Jeffrey Epstein. Trump has denied any wrongdoing regarding Epstein, asserting he severed ties with the financier before his misdeeds became public. Additionally, Crow released a song titled "The New Normal" in July, which criticized what she described as Trump's "immoral" leadership.
According to Billboard, these statements reflect Crow's ongoing public commentary on political and social issues.
