Swedish Court Rejects Hong Kong Couple's Guardianship Appeal for Daughter
A Swedish court has dismissed an appeal by a Hong Kong couple against an application to transfer their four-year-old daughter's legal guardianship to a foster family. The ruling means the custody of Lily, the couple's daughter, remains uncertain as the Swedish social welfare administration seeks to move her into foster care. The Social Welfare Committee cited the need to protect the child from a "rootless and insecure existence" under her biological parents.

A Swedish court has rejected an appeal filed by a Hong Kong couple concerning the guardianship of their four-year-old daughter, Lily. The decision upholds the Swedish social welfare administration's application to transfer the child's legal guardianship to a foster family.
Tsang Wai-bong and Kwan Pui-sin, Lily's biological parents, challenged the move, but their appeal was unsuccessful. Consequently, the child's custody situation remains unresolved, with the transfer of guardianship still being pursued by the welfare authorities.
A report from the Swedish Social Welfare Committee, dated June 3, stated that Lily required protection from what it described as a "rootless and insecure existence" under the care of her biological parents. This report forms the basis of the administration's efforts to place Lily with a foster family.
According to the South China Morning Post, the court's decision means the original application for guardianship transfer proceeds, leaving the couple's challenge unsuccessful.
