Icelandic film director Thordur Palsson has been confirmed to helm the film adaptation of "Dead by Daylight." Palsson, whose previous works include "The Damned" and "The Valhalla Murders," will direct a screenplay written by Alexandre Aja, known for directing "Never Let Go," "Crawl," and "Piranha 3D," and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, writer for "The Conjuring" series and "Aquaman" films.
The announcement was made during the "Dead by Daylight" 10th-anniversary broadcast. Blumhouse founder Jason Blum and producer Stephen Mulrooney were present on stage with Palsson for the reveal.
Palsson expressed his vision for the film, aiming to capture the core experience of playing the game, including the feeling of dread, tension, and the fear associated with the in-game 'Fog.' He noted a desire for the cinematic experience to evoke a lasting sense of horror for viewers.
The film is expected to feature iconic locations from the game, such as The MacMillan Estate and Greenville. Production is slated to begin shooting in 2027. The project was initially announced in March 2023, at which point it was clarified that the search for a director and screenwriter was just beginning.
