Tottenham Reportedly Prepares €70M Bid for Liverpool's Cody Gakpo

Tottenham Hotspur is reportedly poised to make a substantial offer for Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo. According to recent reports, Spurs are preparing a bid valued at approximately €70 million for the 27-year-old Dutch international.

Liverpool, in turn, is planning extensive alterations to its attacking wing positions this summer. Mohamed Salah is expected to leave the club a year early, following an agreement to terminate his £400,000 per week contract. Additionally, Federico Chiesa is reportedly available for around €20 million, attracting interest from several Italian clubs.

Potential incoming players for Liverpool's wing include Yan Diomande, Bradley Barcola, and Francisco Trincao. Diomande, 19, could command a fee of about €100 million if RB Leipzig opts to sell. Barcola's departure from Paris Saint-Germain appears increasingly likely, with his price potentially exceeding that of Diomande. Trincao presents a more economical option, with Sporting CP reportedly open to a sale around €50 million.

Should Gakpo be transferred, the €70 million fee could significantly assist Liverpool's sporting director, Richard Hughes, in financing a replacement or an upgrade. Such a sale could also create more opportunities for 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha to gain increased playing time. Liverpool typically adheres to strict financial controls, often balancing new acquisitions with player sales.

Tottenham is reportedly at the forefront of clubs vying for Gakpo's signature, with Newcastle and Bayern Munich also keeping tabs on the player. A formal approach from Tottenham is anticipated in the near future. Gakpo joined Liverpool in 2023 and signed a new long-term contract last year.
