Two police constables were killed in separate targeted attacks in Bannu district, Pakistan, according to officials on Friday. Police authorities have labeled both incidents as acts of terrorism and have launched search operations to locate and arrest those responsible.
On Friday morning, Police Constable Mishqat Amir was attacked on Bannu-Miranshah Road near Azad Mandi while returning home. Initial reports indicate that unidentified armed assailants opened fire on him, causing critical injuries that led to his immediate death.
In a separate incident on Thursday night, Police Constable Muhammad Roshan, from the Wazeer sub-division police, was shot by unidentified gunmen outside his residence in Saidgi Baka Khel. Roshan, who was serving at the North Waziristan Temporarily Displaced Persons (TDPs) Camp in Baka Khel, had just returned home from duty. He was seriously injured and later succumbed to his wounds at a hospital.
Investigations into both incidents are ongoing, with intelligence-based search operations being conducted in the affected areas. Law enforcement officials and local residents have condemned the attacks, with calls for swift action against the perpetrators. Officials have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace and bringing the attackers to justice.
Bannu district has recently experienced multiple security incidents, with both civilians and local security forces facing attacks amidst increasing militant violence. This violence has included attacks on police and jirga members, prompting targeted operations by security forces to disrupt militant networks.
Last month, the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) reported that Pakistan’s security situation had significantly worsened in May 2026, primarily due to escalating terrorist violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Earlier, on May 9, a suicide attack in Bannu resulted in the deaths of 15 police personnel, leading Pakistan to issue a strong diplomatic protest to Afghanistan.
