UK Defence Ministers Resign Over Spending Concerns
Britain's Defence Secretary John Healey and a second defence minister, Al Cairns, have resigned this week. Both ministers cited concerns that Prime Minister Keir Starmer's government was not making sufficient financial commitments to national defence, particularly in light of a potential Russian threat. Their resignations follow the Prime Minister's initial declaration that a leader's primary duty is to ensure national safety.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, upon taking office, stated that a leader's first duty is to ensure the country's safety.
However, his Defence Secretary, John Healey, resigned this week, informing the Prime Minister that he believed the government was making the country less safe. Healey's resignation letter claimed that Sir Keir was unable to make the necessary financial commitments to defend the nation against the prospect of a Russian attack.
Al Cairns, a second defence minister, also resigned for similar reasons. Both former ministers had reportedly reviewed a long-delayed British Defence Plan, which has not yet been made public.
France 24's Gavin Lee discussed these developments with Tobias Ellwood, a former Conservative MP and former chair of the Defence Select Committee.
