William Saliba Misses France Training Sessions Ahead of World Cup Due to Ongoing Injury
Arsenal defender William Saliba has missed both of France’s pre-World Cup training sessions in Boston, according to reports. The player, who has been managing an ongoing back injury, participated in individual laps but not group training with the rest of Didier Deschamps' squad. While he is not expected to withdraw from the World Cup, careful management is required, with a potential post-tournament operation being considered.
Arsenal's William Saliba has reportedly missed multiple France national team training sessions, raising concerns about his ongoing injury problem.
According to L’Equipe, Saliba did not participate in either of France’s training sessions held in Boston on Thursday and Friday, following the squad's arrival for pre-World Cup preparations. While he was seen doing laps of the pitch alongside Adrien Rabiot, he did not join the group sessions with the rest of Didier Deschamps' squad.
Saliba has reportedly been struggling with a back injury in recent weeks. Despite this, he is not expected to withdraw from the upcoming World Cup, though careful management of his condition is deemed necessary. There are reports of a potential operation after the tournament, the exact nature of which has not been specified.
Arsenal is reportedly aware that Saliba could miss the start of the 2026/27 Premier League campaign if such an operation occurs. The defender previously missed approximately three months of football during the 2022/23 season due to a back problem, which marked his longest absence since joining Arsenal. During the 2022/23 season, Saliba made 50 appearances as Arsenal secured the Premier League title and reached the finals of the Champions League and League Cup.
