The 2026 World Cup, unique for being hosted by three countries—the United States, Canada, and Mexico—is presenting three distinct opening ceremonies. These productions are overseen by Italian producer Marco Balich, known for his work on the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics opening ceremony.
Mexico initiated the World Cup proceedings with its opening ceremony on Thursday, June 11, in Mexico City at the Estadio Azteca. The event took place ahead of the Group A match between Mexico and South Africa. Shakira and Burna Boy headlined, performing the official tournament song, "Dai Dai." Additional performers included Alejandro Fernández, Belinda, Danny Ocean, J Balvin, Lila Downs, Los Ángeles Azules, Maná, and Tyla.
Canada then hosted its opening ceremony earlier on Friday at Toronto’s BMO Field, preceding the host nation's match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Canadian artist Michael Buble led the lineup, with Alessia Cara and Alanis Morissette also featured. Other performers included Palestinian singer Elyanna, French artist Vegedream, Jessie Reyez, Nora Fatehi, Sanjoy, and William Prince.
The United States is scheduled to present the third and final opening ceremony tonight in Los Angeles. This event is set to begin at 12:30 AM BST on Saturday, June 13, at the SoFi Stadium, ahead of the US's game against Paraguay. International pop star Katy Perry will headline, joined by rapper Future. Tyla is also set to appear, having performed in Mexico, alongside Thai-born artist Lisa from K-pop band Blackpink, Nigerian artist Rema, and Brazilian singer Anitta. The BBC is slated to broadcast this ceremony and match.
