Xbox is reportedly closing down Ninja Theory, the game development studio recognized for its work on the Hellblade series.
Employees of Ninja Theory were informed of the closure during a call held on Monday. Despite the news, there is reported hope among staff that the studio might find a buyer.
This development is part of a larger trend affecting several Xbox studios under Microsoft. According to a Bloomberg report cited by The Verge, other Xbox studios, including Compulsion Games and Double Fine, are currently engaged in "active negotiations" to spin off.
The closures and potential spin-offs follow recent statements from Xbox CEO Asha Sharma and Chief Content Officer Matt Booty. Last week, they reportedly warned of an impending "reset" for Xbox, outlining various business challenges. These challenges included concerns that Xbox had "over extended" its studio system and issues related to its hardware business.
According to The Verge, these actions indicate a significant shift in Xbox's strategic approach to its game development division.
