Alberto Aquilani Expresses Honor and Emotion as New Sassuolo Head Coach

Alberto Aquilani has conducted his first interview as Sassuolo's head coach, describing his return to the club as an honor and an emotional experience. Aquilani, who spent six months as a player with Sassuolo in 2017, is now set to make his Serie A managerial debut. He arrived at Sassuolo after leaving Catanzaro.

During the interview, Aquilani expressed pleasure and honor in returning, noting the happiness he experienced there previously and the important values the club represents to him. He signed his contract with Sassuolo on June 12, 2026.

Aquilani also spoke about reuniting with Domenico Berardi, a player he previously teamed with. He acknowledged that the dynamic would require adjustment, stating, “Meeting him again in this role feels a little strange, because I had the chance to play with him and appreciate his incredible qualities.” He added that it would be an honor to coach Berardi, who has driven the team towards important targets for many years.

Regarding the challenge of Serie A, Aquilani acknowledged it as a difficult league but affirmed his readiness to face it with the team and club. He conveyed a message to the fans, expressing his pleasure at seeing them again and assuring them that he and his staff would commit fully to bringing success to Sassuolo.
